Hi folks,

I was looking at getting the Hobart Toughcut set for my garage. I'd be doing some cutting and heating, but probably not much welding. If anyone has purchased the set, I'd appreciate any comments on them.

Other questions:

- What style are these? Victor? Harris?
- Has anyone used these with propane tips? Feedback?
- Has anyone used these with Propylene/MAPP/etc? Feedback?

Thanks!

These look like the Firepower 250 set (Thermadyne/ Victor) and are probably made by them for Hobart. Definitely low end, but perfectly adequate for the use you describe. A club I am associated with has been using a similar set for about 5yrs. w/no problems.

Thanks for the information Northweldor - greatly appreciated.

I'm going to check with my LWS a little closer about MAPP vs. Acetylene for price, but I'm thinking that propane might be the better way for me to go. The thought of paying another cylinder rental makes me cringe!

Use Propane if all your doing is heating and cutting because it is cheap and easy to find refill. Need Acetylene if your gas welding.

I would do a bit of reading re: propane in the threads I mentioned, unless you have lots of confidence in your LWS person (I have often found them not too knowledgeable or keen on propane).
