This is the mount I made for our 32" Lcd we bought 4 christmas I sandblasted and painted with hammered metal finish. Saved me somewheres around $85. I could almost hang off of it. I used 4 no.14 screws into the lathe behind wall.

Looks sturdy enough, probably stronger than the store bought one. The flat screens do scare me, thinking about it falling....always thought they should have safety chains :) Don't ya love that hammered finish paint? Good stuff for a spray can, I use it a lot around here.

Looks pretty heavy-duty! You could probably hang a CRT from it.
...always thought they should have safety chains :) ...
I only worry about them because they're so expensive. They aren't that heavy. I was surprised when we set up Mom & Dad's 40" Toshiba. I figure anything extra used to hold them up, like a tether, would still get ripped out of the wall or would rip the back off the TV as it falls to the floor.
So, just sit back and enjoy it!

DIY can save a lot on those mounts. The markup on them is ridiculous. I can buy through my wholesale account for $40 mounts that sell in the store for $200+
All they are is a little steel and some holes, after all.

I did a couple for friends as well. They seem to have come down in price recently though.

I wonder how much of it is to cover the cost of replacement TVs when one fails or the owner does a poor job of attaching stuff.

Does anyone else have this problem of waking up early in the morning and wanting to weld something?? Anyways about the tv mount, yeah I could'nt see paying 100 for the one I wanted at wally world, found one on evilbay for 30 but where's the fun in that right? As far as failure, I don't think anybody that is smart enough to build their own mount is going to slack on design to drop an expensive tv. If one was not worried about dropping then they would prob not be worried about buying a mount:confused:
