The 91 blew it's top.
Found a sweet 94, first 4 cylinder automatic for me,
that can out-run it's own shadow.

In fact I'm quite pleased with the tranny's performance.
It's a three speed , no mention of over-drive or lock-up
torque-converter.

It seems to back down on the rpms @ precisely 52 mph.
Is this a function directly related to vehical-speed?

Throttel and load don't seem to influence it much,
just a tad curious about how it works.
Thanks

I'm no expert on Toyota tech, but my 88 Land Cruiser's torque converter locks in at exactly 50 mph and the rpms drop accordingly. I don't think it's mentioned in the manual, either.
If I remember correctly, my 89 Prism (Corolla) did it, too, but at 45 mph.
I could sure use a Tercel like that these days. Sounds like a good find.

I spose, if there were a tack, it would show the speedometer, & tack
as directly proportional.

youll pry my toytoa starlet from my cold dead hands !!!!

when we rebuilt the engine and tranny ( just did it in case)

engine and tranny were beautiful,

less than .002 wear on the crank and rod bearings.
