First Wall Art

Hello to all on this great site. I have ben admiring all the great work from all of you on this site. I have learned a lot surfing around and reading. I am a rank beginner. Thank you.

My wife decided she wanted something to go in the big blank area above our television. We looked at many peices and could not find what suited her. She sketched what she wanted on a napkin and I said "I can do that".

I have a small 220 volt HF mig and a set of Harris torches. I tried the mig on this and quickly found it wasn't the tool for the job. The torch worked good. I brazed it together. Any suggestions on a better way? It is composed of cement nails, 1/4" rod and large flat washers.

I submit these pictures for all comments, suggestions and advice. Other than a welder cart/table this is my first attempt.

The torch worked good. I brazed it together. Any suggestions on a better way?

If this is strong and it holds together, then you got it, the best way.

Bob, I like it. Brazing in this case made it so much better than a bunch of tack welds, in my opinion. Nice piece. Carry on...

Thanks for all the comments. Yes, my wife was happy. (and that is what counts) I am thinking on a few other projects now. Need to run them by the boss. She is pretty selective about what she wants. I am enjoying the new hobby a lot. Tuesady I was working on a metal project. Wednesday I was working on a woodworking project. Thursday, it was metal again. Lots of enjoyment.

(It's a real good excuse to get an O/A rig so that I can
braze it! "Sorry hon, the machines in the garage are for
welding, this is brazing, completely different, and it makes that
cool color! :rolleyes:)

It is a really cool piece. Why didn't the mig welder work well? I have mig welded lots of small metal pieces together successfully. If you only weld on the back, then you can flip the piece over and show no welds on the front.
