Bobcat 225 g plus with onan 16 performance

I am having touble with my welder. When it cranks and is in the run position it is skipping or missing while running. It seems to smooth out when under a load while welding. But if you put it in the run/idle position, it idles all the way down and cuts off like you killed power. It sounds like a switch problem but wanted to find out if anyone could offer any help before I started working on it.

The carburetor is always suspect especially if the machine has been sitting, most of them can use a good cleaning even if it isn't the root cause of the problem.

That is where I'd start. Could also be a fuel flow prob. The fuel pump could be starting to go. Carb is the first place to check.
