Ok,, we have a lot of categories, lots, there should be an electrical. Other sites have homeowner DIY for electric, this one should have it also. Due to the specialized nature of the equipment and the interest in DIY in general and considering the target market for these small machines, etc. It would make searches easier and promote more clear explanations.

It makes more sense than some of the others we have. I'd forgotten we didn't have one 'cuz I just use New Posts, but it would make it easier for those who search for answers before asking.

It would help the titles, make them kind of useful, such as 187 cord issue, stick welder outlet, etc. It would help the posts stick around longer instead of getting flushed down to page 2 in a hurry.

I have to agree that it would be some what of a help, but with people being people and for what ever reason they have against using the search function.
It might not help after a page or two. I have heard some really absurd reasons why they don't. From the legend in their on minds types who's time is to valuable to waste using a search function and "wading through the assorted posts looking for the right one" To probably the most common but unstated reason they forget about it.
Or the search engines on the net that would deliver the answers. But with what seems an increase in questions it would help and save server space with the same question not being asked 12 times with only a answer to one of them. To have a section of the electrical and electronic repair or install nature:D

I agree to the extent that it be limited to those electrical fixes normally within the capability of the average person. Most people underestimate the lethal nature of electricity.

I studied electrical for a year on another forum, a couple of them. It really brought me up to speed to some extent. The nature of forums tends to be a good filter for information, not every answer is right or complete but it gets there and after a bit of time I finally buy a current code book when I was studying. At first I didn't think I cared but after a while I did figure I needed to be able to use the book and pay attn to the aspects that particularly pertain to my work. I will never be a master sparkie in the way some are but pretty much function at journeyman wireman level.
As for the danger I agree its possible but this type of work is commonplace and common on the net and no one gives much that isn't code compliant, and a benefit I use from my own experience is I recall "what I didn't know" quite well and focus on safety especially in the area of short circuit protection. I tend to find most people that ask are fairly conscientious crowd, most want it right, if they didn't care they wouldn't bother asking. All this is generalization for sure.
Take guys like Mac and Hank, have each helped hundreds with internet make safe installs and question issues, help a lot of people fix a lot of problems that would have remained a potential hazard vs a risk lower than most other things. Electrocution is actually quite rare, I did read of soldiers being zapped in the showers in Iraq, might have taken only a post on the net to perk something about a solution, obviously someone is missing ground bond and OCPD?
People ask in the real world,, my electrician bud, you know, the guy that wired my house. There they might get one opinion or in the Home Depot aisle, I ran across the other day where the handyman couldn't find a fault, he thinks something is grounded that obviously isn't. Here it would get enough explanation to be of some use usually.

As for insurance companies and inspections, everyone loves inspections but truth be known they would just as soon see you have new equipment and installs, I feel good when someone here runs a new wire back to the panel, eliminate the cobble jobs and adapters, junctions and splices and uses the proper grounding outlet that matches the cord.
My ins company never ask,, who put it there? When it was there? or if it was inspected, your covered, you were stupid and burnt your house down, its half the reason you bought ins, human error. The agent looks and its obvious. We pull new wires all the time for additional equipment, for many homeowners with a bit of help it is a safe and best option, put outlet where its needed.

I agree with you completely. A separate category with the "sub headings"..??..as you say for "HH187 extension cord" and so on...where a precise and fully detailed explanation can be posted ( a PITA at one time..but it would only have to be done ONE time) would be of great help to many "new" members.
Id done minor electrical stuff before...wire a 120 outlet...install / remove 120 breakers..etc..etc...but had never had to install a subpanel and run the proper gauge wire to it ( underground) and so on. Never had even SEEN the inside of a 6-50 wiring device and had to scratch my head how it should have been wired ( wires installed in it) ( kinda different than a 120 device..:D) and you guys held my hand and guided me right thru it and I didnt have any sort of problem(s) with getting it done.
Its understandable where older members ( not in age...lol) can get fed up with answering the same old questions over and over again...but if a guy cant FIND the answer..all he can do is ask it again and again!
