View Full Version : Made another clock...

Made this as a gift for somebody. Turned out okay. I did have to re-do the orange paint, as it started raining and cooled off right after I shot it. When I turned it over to paint the standoffs black, the front took on a texture from the surface it was sitting on. Otherwise, I think I have about 12-15 hours in it. That includes changing the bandsaw blade once because I needed the cut to turn and forced it too much. Also includes the time spent thinking about how to mount the 'floating' pieces and the clock movement. The recipient was ecstatic about it. That makes it worthwhile...

(the orange is really orange, and the blue is actually darker in person)

Nice jog, Dave...the orange in red on my monitor....it is stainless? Isn't it a logo? Looks familiar.

Nice looking work.

How did you paint it? The picture makes it look like the paint
has some significant thickness...

It kinda-sorta-looks a bit like the New England Patriots logo -- even
though it's not... but i may be biased (being from New England :-)

Thanks! I'll let you keep thinking about whose logo it is. It's made of a 14ga steel back with 18ga crs for the orange pieces. And yes, the shiny part is 304 SS. The edges on the orange have been softened, so it has a thicker look to it. It lets a little bit of light reflect off the edge.

Now I have friends of the person it was given to asking for one with their "item" on it. Trouble aside from trademark infringement is that it's hard to make money on stuff like this. When it's time donated, it doesn't seem so bad for some reason to put 12 hours into something. When it's supposed to make money, it's hard to put that much time in and not make that much money. Hate that!

How did you attach them? Holes & plug welds from the back?
Also, how did you attach the SS to the POS (Plain ol steel)?

thanks

I actually welded standoffs to the back of the SS and inserted screws from the backside. I ran out of SS standoffs, though, so I had to epoxy threaded aluminum spacers to the back of the orange pieces. They, too, are held on by screws from the backside.
