This is a welder I got yesterday. The motor runs real good, but it is missing a brush and the commutator has some dings in it. I need to get this thing back welding again. I am not sure what year it is, but its old and kinda ragged looking. I plan on restoring it, first I want to get it working right.

Any advise?

Here's some pics of it.

Wow, what an antique. That kind of machine is the last thing in the world I'd need, but the first thing I'd be attracted to :D Nice find - hope you get it welding. A good electric motor shop can probably help you with the commutator, and the brushes are probably trivial. Oh and mind that the beast doesn't break your arm or knock your teeth out crank-starting it!

Don't know anything about them- they were just in my Lincoln Iweld Newsletter

Take a Dremal with a zip disk and zip in between the commutator isolator, not too deep but enough to separate the 2 damaged areas. Clean the damaged area with a Dremal grinder on a low speed.

Run it up, with some white Comstone clean the rest of the commutator. If you can get me the size of the missing brush, I might have some here....

This generator welder is just like mine. Looks very good. Mine runs well and welds very well too. Good luck un the armature repair. Seems like no much problem to make it works. Here are a picture of the armature of mine. You also can go to www.flickr.com/photos/cacahuatito/ and watch the engine almost finished in restoration

Well, something in this vein would certainly make you the talk of the town amongst the weldors!!:p
