Hopefully I'll get to do some welding on this.
One of the partners wants to have it inspected first, then we have to get permission from the boatyard to let me weld on it.

That's corrosion, which means there is a lot more bad metal...possibly the entire bottom! You cannot weld to tissue thin, corroded edges. You have to cut it away to solid. I see there have been a number of major patches already done on the port side. Your statement that "there are plenty more holes" makes me think this might be worth more as scrap aluminum.:(

Hotfoot I think you are correct.Reason for the inspection. Also I think they only allow so many holes per sq foot before you have to replace a whole section.
Checking to see if they can buy the panels from the manufacturers.
I also think they need a better welder then me...a small patch sure but a total rebuild is a different story.
A few more pics.

I see scrap metal. It's everywhere. It doesn't even know that it's scrap metal.

You could raise the titantic and steam her around but I think it might be past the point of diminishing return. But if they insist and you you are working hourly then thumbs up.

Yep it's hourly,on weekends.I'm really a carpenter...just weld for fun and maybe pay for some of these toys I been buying...spool gun, welder, gas, etc..

Personally I don't care if it ever floats again...I just want to weld on it.

Spent the day welding on this POS.Did 1 patch(the hole by the keel)Above that hole a 3" pipe is in the way making it hard to get at....welding the bottom was a real pain for me.Gravity was doing its thing so had to hold the gun sideways.Still aluminum kept messing my tip up
I was too busy trying to weld to take pics but will in the morning. Its one thing welding on a table with the practice piece all easy to weld...a whole new ball game in the field.(why I don't call myself a welder)

Be nice if I had a place to park a trailer so I wouldn't have to load and unload all this stuff.

Oh yes something else I learned....wait for the acetone to dry before welding.Don't ask how I learned that.
