Have you checked if the helmet is still under warranty.Another fault with esab helmetts if you leave in the box or cuboard they do not charge them selves up,it might be if you leave the helmet in the bright lite it might recover, best of luck:confused:

Telling you to leave a solar powered helmet in the sun for a few days that doesn't have batteries makes absolutely no sense. What would it be charging if it doesn't have batteries? If its out of warranty I'd dive right into it to find out what makes it tick. Maybe they meant that it didn't have any user serviceable batteries? In that case its definitely time to open it up and find a replacement. My $.02. Uncrichie.

Lawson, if you were the guy from the welding shop I can understand your statement. I wasn't refering to you. I really do understand that there is usually a battery backup in a solar powered helmet, hence my statement. I have one just like you and everyone else here. My comments were based on the statement he received at the welding shop. Over and out.

Mike41, sometimes these manufactures will install a wired/soldered in battery that is not user serviceable. If worse come to worse and you get no satisfaction you can try a repair yourself or maybe a friend that is familiar with basic electronics. (Ham radio operators are really great at this kind of stuff if you know any) The hardest part is to locate the battery in the helmet. Once you get access to it remove by unsoldering and finding a suitable replacement from a supplier like Mouser electronics, Digi-key electronics, or Newark electronics. Initially you have to determine if its actually the battery or the solar charger. In any event if you really like the helmet its worth a try if you like fiddling with this kinda stuff. Just what we all need another project, right! Have fun. Uncrichie.
