We have a BIG beautiful plumb tree. Owner before us trained 3 large limbs [6-8" ] to come way out. then turn up. I want to use 3" pipes ,each about 3 ft. long ,under each limb for support. I'm thinking of using 1/2" rod spiraled around the pipes and maybe some king Iron leaves. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Tanks Tool :)

hmm.. make a couple little cacti to hold up the limbs ??

... or just a simple Ring on top of the Pipe that goes around around the limbs- perhaps a japanese accent to the ring.

... here is a neat cactus the Mrs. took a Pic of in Santa Barbara

just sumptin to get the ideas going..

perhaps the Pipe brace can double for a Gong Holder like Hotfoot makes

Tool, I've Google Photo Searched until my pinkie got clicked out trying to find a gargoyle I saw over in Europe of a worker holding up the corner of a building with his shoulder. Never found it, but how about getting artistic and creating a few stick figures shouldering the load of those limbs?

Twisted iron rod would look pretty good for the main support. It's 1 inch solid hot rolled square. You can probably get larger sizes too.

Make some lizards to hold up the branches...

Or maybe a metal stick figure made from rebar or pipe? Some of the stick figures in old cave paintings would be easy to make with rebar.

Pretty cool Cactus there....I like that!

I'm guessing you are just going to support the limbs from underneath & not try to go around the entire limb? You might want to consider some sort of pad between the limb & whatever sort of design you decide on(they are all great). The limbs will "move" constantly in the wind & if they are attached and not allowed to flex you might have problems. As they rub against metal they might be damaged also. Wires around trees are usually shielded with rubber hose..so I guess a rubber pad(foam or wood?)on top of your stand will help. Just thinking out loud...

I think it was on one of the wall cornices on the Big Ben side of Westminster Abbey, but darned if I could find a picture of it on Google. The guy was really grimacing under the load!

Tool,
We were facing a similar situation with our apple tree last year, the limbs were getting overloaded. Rather than bracing it we went the other route. We cut it. As long as you prune it in the winter, you can remove as much as one third of the tree without killing it. In two more years, our tree will be half its previous size and still bearing fruit.
