Hey guys, I just picked up some stainless (t316) for a project and I was wondering if it could be "colored" with heat like mild steel. I've worked with stainless before, but I haven't tried anthing like this before. Is this possible, and if so, any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Oakes

The short answer yes, but as with any of the tempering coloring of metals, copper, steel, or any other. Be aware it is not considered a permanent coloring. as the temperature and sun UV exposure affects it even with a clear UV coating. Time will degrade it.
This becomes a problem when pieces are sold with out a written warning tag. Chemical patinas are a better bet. But then the problem becomes its stainless so a lot of things don't effect it and hold up to handling, or touching or rain etc.
