I have built some rails with 304 S/S, and need to clean around the welds (TIG) I purchased some "Walter Stainless Cleaner/Brightener" in Gel form. Instructions said apply evenly, let set for 10 min. then rinse. I did and it didn't do much cleaning. Should I use a brush on it?
(Using a sample piece)
I then tried cleaning it with Muratic Acid (stright) and used a brush. It cleaned it very well. Will the Acid cause problem later, or can I clean the rails with it and not harm the S/S?

Note: the rails are NOT polished, they are "mill finish" that has been lightly scratched with a "DA" sander and 120 grit disc, gives it kinda of a matte finish.

If the muriatic works for you, do it, just make sure you rinse it off good. I usually just wire brush it, but I guess your requirements may be more stringent.
