Small purchase, but 20' of 2x2" 14g. square tube. $29.00 (Mueller Buildings). That's about twice what it was last year! Old rusty scrap is lookin' better than ever!!:p

Still a better quote than I got yesterday - 20' stick of 2x2x11ga $67 and change. 11ga weighs about 1.5x 14ga per foot, so your price is still better.

IIRC, I paid about that last time I bought 2x2x14ga. That was about 6 months ago.

I hope the Mueller down there does a better job of storing tubing than the one here does. They leave a lot of tubing outside and I've had to buy primed at times to avoid getting rusty stuff. I complain to them but they don't seem too concerned. I see bundles with the bands still around them sitting outside for months.

This is black and clean, as is all the steel I've bought from them over the last five or six years. Its all indoors. I do see some kept outside, but it seems to 'rotate out' pretty quick. I special ordered a bundle of 1/4" rod from them a few years ago, and it sat outside for two weeks, because they didn't have a shelf position open for it, I guess... they've been consistently the best place to buy for me, plus they are pretty handy, which helps a lot!:)

It pays to shop around.
On Good Friday, I bought some new, stored inside, 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1/8th angle for less than $13 per 20' stick. Numerous other places, including a supplier from which I've bought at least $30K worth of material in the last year (for work, not me personally), wanted $20 per stick.

I priced 2x2 14 ga on the 18th in Little Rock at Halbert Steel, $40 a 20 stick.
About $27 a stick in Feb.

I also bought a 20' stick of 3/8 x 1 1/2" flat bar (Mueller didn't stock that) at Westbrook metals in Austin for $33.85 (before tax and a $5.00 cut fee- Mueller does first cut free).:)

Evapfoot, you need to find better places. That 3/8 was almost a buck a pound. A couple of weeks ago, I was paying roughly .59 per pound on most new stock. Westbrook is a specialty supply. Steel would be the last thing I'd get there. SS, alu and CrMo?..yup.
Try Royal in Boerne, AIW in SA, Triple S in SA and you will definitely get better pricing.

Yeah, they are high, but, as I said, they were handy, and Royal didn't have it. I had to go to the Violin Shop in Austin, and they were just two clicks away. It was for edges on a client's gate, anyway, so I got paid for the full stick, even though I just needed 8 feet for the gate. (but they saved a fuel surcharge because I was "there" already, and I rationalized I ended up with 12 feet of nice stock that I'll need someday.:)

...so 1 1/2" would probably be $2.22, and then 3/8" thick would be $6.66 a foot (!!), or $133.20 for a 20' stick!! Now, that is HIGH!!

I live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area and buy all my steel at Discount steel.
Here is the link.

They have the prices on their web page. It is a little cheaper if you go there and buy it. Not bad prices compaired to what everyone on here is quoting.
