I think I need a barrel hinge to attach a ramp/gate to my utility trailer

I haven't built the ramp/gate yet, but it will be out of 1" tubing

my trailer is only a 6.5 X 12 single axle and I want a ramp/gate where I can run my lawn mowers up onto it

since the back is only about 16 inches off of the ground, I think I can use a 6 foot ramp and it not be too steep

I want to be able to remove it easily with a hinge like I have seen on some production trailers where you just life the gate and slide it off of the pins but when it is upright in place it is held in place and locked on

please help

Here ya go. Just attach the ends of the round stock to the trailer. When you swing the ramp up, the leg of the angle swings below the round stock locking it in place. You'll need something to hold it up, of course, like a bar attached about midway down, but it's pretty simple.

The hinges I made for the last trailer I built allowed the ramp to slide off to one side. One pin was longer than the other to make it easier to attach the ramp. (You can slide one side on a little, then focus on the other side instead of having to line both sides up at the same time.) I had a piece of angle bolted to the ramp where the red arrow and black box are. This kept the ramp from sliding off the pins.

Good design, Dave...I would run the round stock all the way across to prevent the ramp from bending in the middle.

Oh, and when I mentioned something to hold the ramp up, I meant in the transit position.

I have built sever with Whatego's desing. it works very weel. You also may want to constder a Aluminum gate. it will be a lot lighter as we keep getting olded. Just make same hinges out of Aluminum and screw them to the trailer instaed of welding them.

These work good to hold the ramp up.
