The crome is the only reason It's salvagable.
The Screw is so badly rusted that the 1/4" hex's
in the ends are nearly round, and the steel is thin
around the hex's.
theres a yoke in the middle , Penitrating-oil will never reach that far,
and I don't want acid to eat the wrong surfaces so that's out.
What do Ya do ?
Micro-Shock thearapy !;)

Hundreds , some cases thousands of high-speed hammer-blows with very light hammers.
applying blows in regions that you intend to "shock" to loosen the joinning surfaces.

The ends of the screw were trashed any-way so hammering
as I screwed the shaft in & out.....to get it this far.

Heavyer blows to the jaws as well, away from the edges and functional surfaces.

Now I can cut the ends off the screw....finnish the take-down.
and restore the ends.
