HF AD hood - free - maybe kaput??? or just discharged

My original hood was this plain black AD from HF...you all know the one. After flawless hobby use, I put it on the shelf after I got my Optrel. Used it as a (very) occassional backup or for visitors who wanted to look over my shoulder.

Anyway, found myself needing it recently, but I think it discharged from lack of use. Didn't darken. Left it in the window for an afternoon, still didn't seem to darken. Gave up after minimal effort.

Anyway2, I'm gonna dump it unless someone wants it.

Put a gold #10 in it and use it as a flip down hood

I'll take it.. If it's fixable I can use it to teach the girlfriend how to weld. :) If not I can use it for spare parts for my helmet (also an HF unit) Let me know. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, that AD hood from HF has a button battery in it and does not get recharged from sitting in the sun. Somewhere there is a post on taking it apart and putting in a new button battery. Don't think it's that complicated. Nothing lost if you take it apart since it already doesn't work. The button battery fix may have been posted in the Welding Web forum.
