No professional engineering required on this one! I have been thinking of doing this for some time, and, as I get ready to slice three more tanks, I finally decided to try it.
I started with two salvaged (naturally) treadmill rollers, but Boat rollers, etc. would do as well, or just four casters. I welded a bolt to four pieces of 1/2" pipe to support the shafts. The rollers have sealed bearings peened into the ends.

Put the bolts through some holes in one of my tables (this is my long, narrow, "Bike Building" table). This shows a 9" cylinder supported about 1/4" or so off the table, and it turns very freely. It will be very easy to fit to other cylinder sizes.

Next is trying some different cutting setups. The first will be a "swing Pivot" for a 4 1/2" Grinder with Cutting Disc. I may also try one for a 7" carbide disc in a Skil saw held in a similar jig. Then, I'll make holder for my Plasma Cutter gun, to let it cut as I rotate the tank. I will put "Shoes" on the two ends of the tank, bolted to the table, to keep the tank from wandering off the cut. :)

Good idea. That is a different slant on what I was thinking, but I really like it. My original idea was to use two casters per roller set. I would need two roller sets, depending on the length of pipe I would be cutting. Now I think I am going to try to cabbage on several of conveyer belt rollers (a person doesn't know when he needs an extra one....or two.....or....). For my use, they would not have to be new....just functional.

:)I like your idea better than mine.
