I couldn't help myself today, even though I have a plasma already I found a great deal on a Miller Spectrum 2050 locally. It's had relatively little use and the gentleman selling it made me a smokin' deal on it. Not a whole lot more money than an equivalently sized Chinese import. :D

He was using a genset to demonstrate it so we couldn't really crank it all the up but I'm looking forward to getting it connected to my shop power and seeing how it does. 55A output, with a 25' torch lead. I really liked the new TD52's, but hey, this was here and now and I decided to pull the trigger.

Wow! Nice score you did there Zrexxer . It's really in nice shape. A little work with windex and a rag and that would look like new again.

I guess you deserve the "U SUCK !" award. :D ;)

Got a chance to play with it a little today, and found out the previous owner had the wrong consumables in the torch... I don't know how it ran at all!

Anyway, with the right swirl ring, electrode, tip, AND drag shield, this thing is amazing. There's no losing the cut; you just pull the trigger and go. I don't have anything thick enough to test its rated capacity but I powered right through things that slowed down my old machine, like the web corner in 1/4" angle, etc. Even with my shaky hand, there's no dross, slag, anything... just cut and go.

A word of advice ... now that you've confirmed that you have made a good deal and have experienced the great results, hide all of the rest of you metal. It's addicting ... you will wind up with nothing but little pieces all over you shop :p ;)
I used that model when I took a TIG course and it worked great even with the abuse it took from students.

That thing cuts nice!!

This goes to show a nice plasma is worth the money. I had a chinese machine before the TD51 I have now. While the chinese ones do cut metal, there is no comparing the two for quality of cut, consumable life, etc., not to mention the piece of mind knowing that you can easily get repairs or parts.

A friend of mine had a problem with a lawn mower, gave it to me. I pulled the handle and the engine felt like there was a problem. I looked under the deck and found that the dried grass had built up and fell down and prevented the blade from moving around. I cleaned the grass and pulled the cord 3 times and it started. I called my friend back and asked if he was testing me. Baffled and a little embarassed he reluctently took the mower back at my insistence.

The reason for this: Did you consider calling the man back and telling him about your discovery about the wrong consumables?

The reason for this: Did you consider calling the man back and telling him about your discovery about the wrong consumables? It did cut, albeit poorly, and he demonstrated it, sold it to me as working, and did not indicate he thought there was any problem. So, no.

Deals like this where the previous owner lacked the ability to read the owners manual does not require you inform them of their dumb mistakes. Unless you just can't help yourself.:D

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Can't tell his a$$ from his elbow.
If dumb were dirt, he would be about an acre.

Shall I keep going.................:D
