i've been asking some questions lately about benders and such. i wanted to buy one, but it won't be here in time for a gift i want to make for my wife. i'll buy one later this year maybe. i was busy this past weekend. i made my own bending jig, and a separate scrolling jig, on saturday. didn't cost me anything, as i made them from things kicking around the garage. then i made her a firewood holder on sunday. i plan on giving it to her as a gift on valentine's day.

here is the progression of my project.

pic 1: 3/16" x 1" material to make the firewood holder.
pic 2: scrolling jig. 1" schedule 40 pipe, 1/4" and 1/2" plate.
pic 3: underside of scrolling jig.
pics 4,5: bending jig. 1" and 2" schedule 40 pipe, 1/4" and 1/2 plate.

in my second post,

pics 6,7: scrolls made with scrolling jig.
pics 8,9,10: firewood holder, with a built in kindling holder attached to the side.

don't be too hard on me!! it's only the first one i made. i think she'll love it.

Tigster nice work. I don't know if you saw it or not but LarryM posted a nice little bender project in this section down below under Home Made Bender Ideas by Baddazzbu. I think I have enough stuff to build something close to that here.So I might try it just for a project and if I really use it alot I can always buy one someday.;)
