From time to time folks have a question directly related to the running of some model of a Hobart machine, or that only you folks could answer. I know you guys don't have all day to peruse the forum and ferret out those types of questions, since your main function is to produce these great machines we have fun with, and make our living with. SO... is there some way to save you folks time in finding these posts, so you won't have to run through thousands of posts to locate a customer in need of your expertise? Possibly area just for you folks to answer, or code word that would direct you to such a person needing your advice? Just trying to help.

Rocky,

Maybe it's not my place to jump in here, but that's never stopped me before.

Your idea is a good one, like a separate forum, "For the Experts", or something. The problem is, how does somebody know if their question is one that only the folks at Hobart could answer or one that other users may have already experienced and knows the answer to. The other issue is that often folks are looking for help on Friday evening and don't want to wait until the following week.

Just some thoughts.

Dave

While that may be true, some folks would like the answer to come directly from Hobart, and the weekend timing issue, the question could very well be posed in another area, which is what happens now, so that wouldn't need to change. Issues on electronics, warranty part numbers, and the like, would be answered in this area. I just don't want the H.E.'s to be burdened with searching, and since this may already be a problem for them...I wouldn't want to lose their interest and support, because of many areas to search. I just want this forum to work better for them, and us, too. I/we need their watchful eye.

Great idea Rocky! While I see Dave's point, unless your "Ask the Expert" forum was a restricted area, (Rated *H* if you will ;)), non-Hobart experts would still be able to answer threads there. So folks could still get the same answers they are receiving now, it would just make it easier for the Hobarts to find questions specifically directed at them.

You never know, you could have the Experts dancing in the streets with this one:

Another problem is that many here are actual miller/hobart factory trained techs. I pull up Miller or Lincolns private extranet sites when answering most of the technical issues.

In my shop I have a 52" plasma monitor on my wall, and unless I have a wiring diagram on it, or am playing an online movie, there is 3 sites including this one being monitored.

Aww, no fair. Most of us have to pull it out of our private, uh, uh, well, you know. :p
