Hey all.
Just today I purchased a New Hobart Champion 10,000 for general maintainence around here -I operate and live on a cattle feedlot- as well as for personal use; i.e. welding together trap stakes, building new gates for the cattle yards, constructing livestock handling hardware etc...
Well, after I'd made the purchase I decided to see if there was a Hobart website and found the WELD TALK link; so, here I am.:)
I have been welding since my early 20's -I'm now 33- and have always yearned for a Welder/Generator combination unit, so I finally took the plunge.
I think my wife was getting sick of hearing me constantly talk about how much easier my work would be if only I could fix things where they were -like fenceline feedbunk hardware- instead of always having to dismantle everything and haul it way up to the machine shed.
So, last night while enjoying a drink together she said, "then why don't you just go and buy one then" ? I replied, "because I'm too cheap, and I've already got 3 other welders". To this she says, "yeah but, if you buy that Hobart thing, then you could run your power tools with it also?" I said yes.
Long story short, my wife simply says, "you've got to stop worrying over these things all of the time, we are supposed to live in the here and now remember? And besides, it isn't like we go out and spend $2,800 everyday"
More to the point, I picked it up this morning, mounted it on the "tool truck" -my Grandpa's old 79' Silverado with a 4" lift kit and all other manner of goodies- right next to the acetelene torch and toolbox.
I put about 3 hours on this thing today and have got to say, MAN, I LOVE THIS THING !!!

Congrats on the new welder. I have a miller trailblazer 301g and when I bought mine, it was great. I could go anywhere and weld. I brought the welder to the work. I had power with me all the time, I slowly got rid of all my battery powered tools and bought all 120vac tools. Dont have to mess with dead batteries and battery powered tools dont have the umph as power tools.

I back feed my house from the welder in case of a long power outage but since I bought it in 2002 we havent lost power. Hurricane Fran was the last time we lost power for more than a day here in NC. Havent got to try it yet.

Good luck
