Hey everyone, My name is Dave I am 25 years old and from Belleville, Ontario. I just recently purchased a new Hobart 125 welder from Northertools.com. I am very excited to start welding around the farm, especially with my old truck which needs rocker panels. If anyone has tips, tricks, suggestions or anything please let me know

Thank you

Dave

Welcome aboard, Dave.

That machine is perfect for what you want to do. Get a cylinder of C-25 and some .023 ER70S-6 wire and off ya go!

Don't try to run beads on light gauge shhet goods - you'll get a lot of burn through. Lap joins are best, and "stitch welding" (short, small welds scattered around the edge to prevent overheating) is the method.

Plenty of help on here for you any time. There are no dumb questions!

Yes. I just have the normal 125, not the EZ. Do you think that the flux cored wire will work fine for my application, or should I invest in the mig gas conversion kit earlier then later? I know gas is very expensive around here, and If I dont need to purchase the conversion kit and gas just yet it would be awesome.

Please let me know.

Also, I have never welded before, so this should be a challenge.

Fluxcore will be just fine:)

Edit- Fluxcore will be just fine for a lot of tasks. If you start to have trouble on thin material- body panel work etc- then getting the Gas Conversion kit may be worth it.

On the farm, you will find for outdoor work and thicker material you will want to use the flux-core wire.

For body work on thin sheetmetal, that is where the gas will excel.

Gas isn't priced that bad. Check out praxair or your local TSC store if you have one. I think there is a TSC in Belleville.

Welcome - I too am in Belleville - well Sidney.

For outdoor work - stick with flux core - but once you get hooked - you are going to want to try gas. Night and day difference.

BTW - best deals on wire are at TSC during their 2 or 3 annual 25% off welding sales. TSC will sell you gas to but Prax has the best prices I've found.

Whats the average price per bottle from Prax? Id probably be better off with the small bottles as I will not do THAT much welding.
