I'm looking for a plasma cutter for cutting sheet to 3/8. 110v or 220v will work. I do not want one with a built in air compressor. Spending range: cheap

3/8" gonna require 240v machine-
Cheap- well the imports have that covered but also come with their own problems.
I know Hotfoot seems to be quite satisfied with his Riland-

3/8" inch cut and cheap seldom fall in the same category.
It will be a 240 volt machine and you will need very dry air.

I continue to be very satisfied with my Riland Cut 40, but if you are working with 3/8", I'd say the Riland Cut 60. Rilland USA has real humans right here who actually talk to you, have parts, and know the machines inside and out. Jack Storts (on this forum) sells these units, as does Grappletractor (I think??), I bought mine from Riland through Ebay.
If you want to spend more ( like a thousand dollars more), the Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 51 is my favorite...actually I put one on my Christmas list last year, but Santa is afraid to park his sleigh anywheres near my shop! (Have you seen the runners and springs on that beauty!!??):p
You'll want as many amps as you can afford. The biggest error of newbie plasma buyers is under-buying. I did that with my first two plasmas, and could have had that TD 51 for the money I lost.:(

you should be able to get a deal on the cutmaster 51 because the cutmaster 52 is out, don't know what's really improved though.
