Hi there, I've been building and selling some firewood holders that I build in my small garage. There big enough to hold 3 or 4 arm loads of wood plus a seperate spot to hold kindling wood. I sell the odd one here and there usually by "word of mouth", everyone really likes them. If I could display them somewhere where more people could see them I could do much better. I'm planning on stopping by the 2 small store that sell woodstoves and supplies in my area to see if they will display them. Just wondering how I go about it when I talk to them,etc... How much profit would they normally expect ? I sell them for $80 and up. I'm far from being a businessman, lol.

Retailers typically want around 35% of the retail price - some want more, few want less.

Unless you deal with a ton of volume, you are better off on your own.

Here's an article about selling through consignment: http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol58/consignment.htm

A store may want 30 to 50 percent of the sale price or more.

howdy howdy!

Is it possible to see a picture of your product? It sounds like a bit of redneck marketing would help ya bunches. find the cheepest places to put up a picture of a small hot chick moving around a ton of wood with a beautiful smile. BOOM! sold. Grocery stores have free posting boards usually. you can make a flyer with phone number tabs on the bottom. label each number "firewood carrier" or something, and then your phone number. Make it at home with your own computer printer and scanner. Feed stores, farm stores, anything like that. don't forget to use a HAND WRITTEN date on it for when posted. Next, I would use the little nickel or whatever cheepie newsprint add agency. Something like "professional made firewood cart for super easy fast firewood loading". Custom options available... just kidding.

People like ***, anything sexy sells, instant results, the words warruntie, guaruntied, satisfaction, sale, professional, results, easy and fast. They want instant gratification. You have to put it very simply, in as few words as possible tell them that you will make there lives simpler faster and easier with the purchase of your product. If possible, make it "pretty" like, 5 color options to choose from. People like to have some kind of choice. They also like to get a bargain some how... So if you get a stinker of a customer that wants it cheeper then everyone else, give him a "cheeper" option. Like, cheeper wheels or something, you can say it's the "first generation wheels" before you upgraded to fancier wheels. both types get the job done. These options, should not effect your overall profit % rate hopefully. Anyway, good luck! brian Lee Sparkeee29

www.etsy.com is a market for hand-made stuff. More crafty stuff for chicks, but if you are willing to ship, this might be something to look into.

Are you sure he wasn't inquiring about the "Peoples Republic of California"? With some of their stupid, liberal thinking, "Feel Good Laws"....they should be a seperate country. ;)
