I just picked up an oxy/accetylene rig to do some feild repairs. My question is, what pressure do I set the regulator at? In the book "Performance Welding" the author says between 4 to 6 pounds each. The supplier that I bought the equipment from said 7 and 37. Which is right?

Welcome aboard.

It depends on the tip size.

Welding or cutting? Most welding is done with identical pressures for both O² and C²H². Cutting generally runs from 3 - 6 PSI on the acetylene and from 20 - 35 PSI on the oxygen, again depending on the tip size.

Here's a link to a tip chart: www.hoopersupply.com/tipchart.html

Welcome to the forum, this is a wealth of information for all things welding...glad to have you aboard. There is no such thing as a dumb question, so ask anything, or add to the discussion with your own experience...we also have some fun, too. :D
I've always used 5 on the acetylene, and 40 for the oxygen. Tip charts are handy and it does make a difference when you have the right pressure set.
