Hello. I started welding about ten years ago or so, on a somewhat frequent bassis, been welding off and on since I was about 12 or so, I am now 32. I work in a body shop in louisville, ky. and have for about the last 10 years. All we use the is an argon mix, for mild steel/sheet metal. I recently bought an ironman 210 and love it but have a couple of projects in mind, and am tring to find out what gas to use w /stainless and w/alum? all help would be greatly appreciated.

100% Argon for aluminum.
Tri-Mix (90% He, 7.5% Ar, 2.5% CO2) for the stainless in short circuit transfer. Argon with 1% or 2% Oxygen for spray transfer on SS.
Hope this helps.

what ist it that you are calling short transfer/spray transfer, can this be accomplished with a ironman 210? Thanks C.P.

There are three modes of MIG transfer: Short circuit, globular and spray. Dunno if the Ironman can do it. Spray requires a higher duty cycle and wire feed capability, than short arc.
