Just went over to Dillon supply here in Raleigh. They have 1" 16ga square tubing for $0.84/ft That seemed like a pretty good deal to me. What are you guys seeing? I know it beats the home improvement stores where you pay $5.00/ft :D

I just bought some 1" x 1" x 16 ga tube last month, it was $17-something for 20 feet, so about 85 cents a foot.

$1.34/ft CAD for 1"x1"x0.065"...but we get gouged around here for everything, so I'm used to it. :D

I'd have to go to 1/2"x1/2"x0.065 to get $0.88/ft.

These prices are for full lengths (20'), anything less then it's $1.61/ft for the 1"x1" and $0.96/ft for the 1/2"x1/2".

Yeah the price I quoted was for full lengths. I had to get them cut in half and that cost me $3/per so I guess the price was a tad higher. The other steel "wholesalers" around here wanted 2x what I paid....crazy.

Just bought 24 feet of 1 x 1 x 1/8" for $21 yesterday in NH. I was really happy with that price compared to Lowes, etc. Works out to 0.875 per foot, not bad for 1/8". That includes one cut.

Howdy Howdy!

I pay between 17 cents and 25 cents pe rpound here for tubing shapes, though these are from a steel scrap yard, or seconds. Not reproduceablely found pieces, like if I had 1,000 items to make. But it sure beats full price. And it makes pricing shapes easy. sometimes, theyre shorter though, sometimes a little discolored or rough around the edges.

If your into it for hobbyiest purposes, search for scrap yards first. They usually sell steal in shapes and forms, at twice the price per pound they could get if it were minced up and shipped to a smelter. It's cheeper for them not to do any work, and sell it, then to ship it off. depends on the yard. You can look online for industrial auctions in your county also. I've scored a ton of goodies there. Boeing surplus has treated me really really good for all my alluminum boat repairing neads.

Good luck! Brian Lee Sparkeee29 P.S. these guys usually live on beer. bring a half rack, and you might get a big price break.

That's a pretty big difference for the 75 miles we are apart Zrex

Dale,

I'm in your neighborhood, and just bought 3 sticks of 1" 16ga sq tubing for $16/stick (20'). That's 80 cents a foot out the door, including taxes. I bought it at Foy Mart, down 64 E past Knightdale.

Foy Mart is primarily a convenience store, but they branched out into hardware, then into trailer building. I think they sell steel to get their volumes up. They do not have an unlimited selection, but they do seem to have good prices.

I used the tubing to make my Welding Cart (http://www.hobartwelders.com/weldtalk/showthread.php?t=28375).
