Try asking one question at a time. Your questions are lengthy answers. John

Are you talking about distrortion in metal from welding or getting distortion when you're high? :D

I sure wouldn't want to discourage anyone, but there are volumes of books covering each of the questions.

In short though, heat is listed as one of the primary causes for distortion, and skipping to the last question, there are a lot of things that can cause weld defects, both general and dependent on the type of welding you are doing. But in my case, I am probably the biggest cause of my weld defects.........But I am working on doing better.

Practice, practice, practice.

I am very lucky that I have a neighbor that is a weldor, and has been helping me with my welding problems.

heat causes distortion and controlling it comes from simple trial and error. if you are producing the same thing over and over you can learn to "counter warp" or "counter bow" a piece during welding so that it comes out straight. I do it all the time....
