I can freehand cold & hot steel as good as I need too ,
BUT , I tryed Glass tube , once where my son works, after repairing a machine for them.
While I was waiting for him , The boss there set me up at a burner/station.
Epic failure :o:p but fun :)
A friend asked him to retube this old sign.
I need to show off a little....
it actually is a perfect fit , he just didn't center the camera as well as I would have.......:D

looks great to me Vicegrip, I have always been amazed at the art of working with glass. does your son complete the tubes with the gas and wires or is that another part of the business?:)

They call that "Pumping" the sign.
done by departments in his fulltime place.
In a custom sign-shop , it would likely be done all by the same indivual.
Yes , he can do the whole thing, but not how they do it there.

Great job! That brings back memories. I got a tour of a sign shop back when I was a Cub Scout. They made us each a bud vase to take home. I still have it here somewhere.

Where do you buy your glass filler rod, and what machine did you weld this with?
LOL!
I'm such a neon geek. I sport the "Open" sign in my shop cuz I can't get ahold of any cool beer ones for less than a mint.

We don't have any neon signs, but we do have a sign transformer that is fun to play with. I think it's 25 mA at 15,000 volts. Makes a great Jacob's Ladder. It's fun to watch the arc slice through a piece of paper on its way up the ladder. (On a plastic pipe, wearing a pair of Lineman's rubber gloves...)

Any idea what repairs on a neon sign might cost?
I have a broken Busch Beer sign. Top tube broken.
It has been hanging in my garage for a few years.
