I just got a new HOBART TIGMATE it is a great machine I would recommend it to any one. I have a few questions. From what I understand miller owns hobart and it is interesting that the owners manual shows a Miller ECONOTIG and the intruction dvd is all about the ECONOTIG. Does any one no if these are the same machines with a different name. If so get the HOBART it is about 400 bucks cheaper. Also my wife ordered the welder for me as a surprise christmas present (I know what a woman) The only problem is she did not realize that there were two different packages for this machine. One is with the pedal to control the current and the other comes with a finger dial control. She ordered the finger dial. this presents a problem for me both hands are already tied up with the torch in one hand and the filler rod in the other and it is difficult when you add a third task by hand. I have already placed an order for the $200.00 foot pedal but I would like to know if anyone knows of an application where you would actually want to use this finger dial. (maybe if you were on a ladder) I am keeping the finger dial im sure it is useful for something but im not sure what any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Nice work on the welder gift. I just don't understand why they would even sell the hand first over the foot control. I could see a need for the finger control if I was not able to use the foot pedal. I do mold work and sometimes you have to lean in or over the tool. I have resorted to another person operating the foot pedal for me. Sometimes I use my knee or thigh. Although I have never operated a hand control, but would like to try one some day.

Did you try to exchange it?

I really like my TIG Mate, good job HOBART.

Miller doesn't own Hobart....both are owned by ITW.....as for the econotig.....from all I have seen of it and the Miller the only diff. is the color.... you know there is more pigment in Blue paint vs White this explains the extra $ :D......as for the finger control it will help when you are not setting at a bench...

Thanks for the info fellers. I did try to return it; but they wanted me to send the whole welder back and that was way to much trouble so. anyway I might need the finger control for something so i'll just order the pedal.

There's been several times where I could have used one of those finger controls, but I had to get by with the foot control.
