can anyone tell me any info about corner joints

This is a prime example of an "open-ended question" :D
Are we talking :
How to weld?
Type of material i.e. square or round tubing, plate, angle, I beam, H beam, Wide Flange beam, rebar?
How to fit?

Check out this thread, third post down:

I had to read that post several times to digest it all.

I have chronicled an outside corner angle joint <here> (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v252/RockyD/Welding%20Tricks/Outside%20Angle%20Bend/)

I have chronicled an outside corner angle joint <here> (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v252/RockyD/Welding%20Tricks/Outside%20Angle%20Bend/)

I just picked up my first welder a couple of days ago and only had it on long enough to run the wire to the gun...haven't even made a spark yet. Raining here and my ole ladie will kill me if I fill the basement up with smoke.
I have never welded before so needless to say I have a thousand questions so I might as well start with this one:
On that outside corner that you did, if that was going to be a finish edge ( all painted up pretty with a flower pot setting on it ) can that bead on the top surface be ground off flat (flush) and still be structurally sound?
Question # 2....Couldn't you just do a reverse cope of the inside corner shone in a previous post rather than filling in the outside corner with a separate piece?
I am a carpenter so I understand structure and jointery but I rarely do much with steel at work other than clear span I beams.

Yes:):)

You can grind down the weld.

Q #1 Yes, as Ed have already said.
Q # 2 The scope of my demo was to have the flange to the outside. You can also do it with a 45° cut, but this is hard to do with a chop saw...it could be done with a torch or a cut off wheel in an angle grinder. It did it this way, because I thought it was easier for a novice to do. Also this is the type of joint you will have on a sheet metal tank that has a flange to the outside.

Post #3 in the thread (your's!) is truncated like that, and there's no link or pic in it. Is it just my machine?
