Please bare with me and show patience. I know Im asking alot of questions and glad you guys are helping me. I bought a Clarke Mig 95 welder this past week new. I noticed the ground clamp looked like a thin, flimsey toy. Something somone sqeezes in their hand as an exercise. I wanted to replace that so I bout a better ground clamp today. It said "ground clamp 300 amp"
So is this clamp to big for this 100amp ? Will it hurt or burn anything of? Or am I safe?
Brian
The little original one was probably ok. You are not gonna pull that many amps, for that long, thru that small of a welder. You're ok with the stock one. Weld a whole bunch and feel it. It wont even be warm.....
Dont stress on the questions....Its how we all learned.( even Rocky D, if he can remember that far back):p:D

True that the original clamp was probably satisfactory for your use, but to answer your question directly, no, it won't hurt anything to used a ground clamp of greater capacity than your welder can put out. It's always nice to be working with something substantial, rather than tinny. Gene Gauss

When I bought my first MIG (a Miller Sidekick), I put a "Super Ground" clamp on it...pretty much just because I saw one on eBay, and thought it would be 'better'. The clamp was one of those Brass or Bronze ones, a fine clamp I'm sure, but the darn spring in one was like one of Arnold's hand exercisers , and snapped shut like the jaws on an alligator. So, I removed it and I bought a Lincoln ground clamp at HD, and liked it MUCH better.:)

Yeah, but when I was asking these questions, they didn't even have calculators yet, let alone computers!
Brian, both Gene and TEK have answered your question...since you already got it, use it.:)

Nothing wrong with a little bit of a Tim Allen job when you're a little bored :D
