I just puchased a new HH187. I have a couple of questions. I will be welding primarily 4130N and mild steel .065"-.025" wall. What would be the best .030 wire for this welder using a 25% 75% mix? Also what should my gas pressure be set at?

Thanks

don't know about the 4130N, but i can say i wouldn't weld with 030 wire on mild steel of those thicknesses. i would use 023, the 030 might burn through too easily. i would set the gas flow at 20 CFH. hope this helps.

Wire is ER90S-B3, or ER70S-6 if tensil doesn't matter. John

I welded 4130 high pressure pipe for down hole applications for the oil field industry with er70s wire. I was certified to 20,000psi and the process was certified for much more.

As I said, if you dont worry about tensil strength, it is ok. John

Howdy Howdy!

I'm just curious as to whether a decimal is in the wrong place in your thicknesses or not. .025, is the kind of tolerance you might find in my V-8 between moving parts. .25 = 1/4" .125 = 1/8" .0625 = 1/16" .0313 = 1/32" I'm not saying your wrong, but a verification of thickness might be good. For Chromoly, it'd be better to tig in the original posts thicknesses I would think.

Whatcha making with it? :) Sounds kinda like high grade bicycle tubing, or aircraft frame build up. Good luck! Brian Lee Sparkeee29

yeah, you caught that huh, sorry. That should read .065 to .125 inch wall thickness. I am building circle track chassis. I thought 20 psi was right but the guage on my previous welder broke years ago and I just adjusted it by feel.
