View Full Version : What Do I Have???

I purchased a Hobart welder/generator. It didn't run. I cleaned out the gas tank and the carburator. The flywheel, starter and battery where all replaced. With all of this done, the machine runs like a top. It welds and generates power. I am trying to find out the data for the machine so I can see what I actually have. The data plate is so worn that you can't read anything. It's on a trailer of it's own so you can tell it's a big unit. The flywheel and starter are similar to what is on a 1985 Ford Mustang 4 cylinder, so I know that it is at least an '85. The armature(sp) has two rows of pickups on it. I don't know if that helps or not. It has a low and high range, automatic idle and one duplex receptical on the front. If you have any info on how I can figure out what I have, I will greatly appreciate it. A pipe fitter that I know calls it a pipeliner type machine.
Thanks,
Ken

a picture is worth a MILLION words.........(If you don't have a digi-cam,,, then you should go down to the welder/generator thread and find one thats close) is there a bullet shaped end-
bell sticking out on the control end? {thats a "pipeliner"trait}

It looks like a mid 80's Hobart Mega Arc...actually, it is a Mega Arc, but may not be mid 80's...It does look like the pic in my book from '84, though.
They had three gassers....200-G, 250-G and 300-G.

Sorry, no idea. I think some have asked that same question here before, but I didn't follow along to find out what happened. You could do a search here and see what comes up. Either Hobart or Thermal will have them. Not sure who got what.

I sent an e-mail to Hobart and asked them where I could get some info. I'll see what they come up with. Thanks again for your help.

Is there a plate on the engine? Maybe you could work that angle with the engine manufacturer as to a production date? Uncrichie.
