The question is what to do with a full size O2 bottle that I inherited over 2 yrs ago and has a hydrostat date of 1988. Both my LWS will not have nothing to do with it and I did not get any papers when I inherited it.

My local scrap yard won't take it either.

I am thinking of making it out of something other than just an O2 bottle.

Ideas is what I am looking for.

Thanks:)

Cut it up in pieces and throw it in the garbage.

Get another LWS or sell it to someone in another town.

I could take that cylinder to any of my LWS in Las Vegas, pay $16 for a hydrotest and then exchange it for any gas I want, as long as it doesn't have another gas company's name engraved on the collar.

Those things are way too expensive to be scrapping unless they are damaged.

Mac's right on the button.

And, if you find a really friendly and customer-oriented LWS, they may even take bottles with names engraved on the collars. Mine took such a trade once, and only cost me ($35) extra because of the collar name.

BTW, have you ever seen Hotfoot's gongs? If you can't trade it, GONG IT!

I'll probably do a gong some day... if Hotfoot does not use all the old bottles up before then! :D

Hotfoot might not give you much for it cuz he gets them already for a song (free or close to it I thought?). If you are close to him, maybe have him give you a lesson face to face of how to make a killer gong out of it?

If I were within 200 miles of him, that's what I would do, but that's just me.

Have you seen his work?

If not a gong I'd sell it, but then again, I'm poor and would sell anything not nailed down......:D

I had 2 CO2 tanks given to me, I took one to local welding supply and exchanged it for a full one, $16 and some change

Hotfoot I am in the Dallas area so that is quite a ways from Cayon Lake just for a O2 bottle.

The neck does have the name of a welding supplier on it in the normal raised letters.

I may give them a call and see what they will do for me...maybe nothing since the last hydro date is 1988 and I don't have any paperwork for it.

I am thinking of just cutting it up but I will hold off for awhile....I may come up with something more than a gong.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

A good supply house will help you out. If not make a light house.

It's the large type over 50" tall and 9 + inches in diameter.

Depends on the name. Companies that are no longer in business, like Union Carbide or Linde, are the same as owned bottles in my area. I have some.

"If not make a light house....." Heck, Tozzi, I'd make one of these if not another three gongs (that's what I get from one like his).:)

If you decide you want to rid yourself of it, I'm in the Dallas area and would take it off your hands.

The problem with bottles w/out papers is that there is a good possibility they were leased and not owned. Sometimes you are better to go to a different LWS then the one on the bottle and just pay for the hydro test and fill. Paint your name on the bottle. They probably don't care who's name is on the ring. If you take it to the LWS that's on the ring they might want to keep it. That said, I'm not advocating keeping a bottle that is leased. That's stealing. But, if you are pretty sure it's customer owned then you should be able to find a LWS that will test and fill it for you.

I bet it'd make a really good pumpkin launching cannon.

I am coming up with the same situation. BOC wants me to drive it their place and give it to them free. Asked for something in trade like a pound of Tig wire or something similar and they said no, talked to local Delille shop and said no to trade or anything else. Ideas anyone? Hate to cut up for scrap!

I think I have found a way to get it filled, I am working with a local guy in this process.

As far as the history of the bottle I inherited it from my stepdad two years ago and he didn't tell me where he got it.
It has a 88 hydro date and the welding supply name on the bottle is no longer around.

Thanks for the help guys:)
