Have a Victor Super Range setup $200 shipped if you'd like. If you were in NJ I'd give you a deal on the bottles as well.

Firestorm. Handles (mixers), torches, regulators, and tips come in different sizes. In the consumer sector these are often designated as Light Medium and Heavy Duty. Bigger torches and tips will cut and weld thicker metals, and they use more gas. If you get a light duty setup (such as the Smith AW1 and light duty regulators I just acquired) there is a limit to how thick it will weld or cut. The advantage to the small units is that they are lighter, and sometimes cost less, but if you are mostly cutting and welding thicker metals you would probably not want a light duty set. The medium duty (size) sets are probably a good size for most folks.

Once you have picked out the size of the torches and tips you are interested in, you can then figure out the minimum size tanks you need and go up from there.

I gained a tremendous education on all this from the folks here, but also from downloading and reading the catalog under this link:

http://www.smithequipment.com/products.htm

Its well worth the read, and you can match up what you want to do to the size of the equipment you might want. They usually have good descriptions of what each size torch set is designed for. By the way, Hobart sells some re-badged Smith sets.

A slightly less organized education on Victor sets can be had from reading the descriptions and specifications on their sets here:
