Thanks Hotfoot! I found that last night and was hoping nobody else would see it until I could come up with the $250 to buy it. Guess I'll have to keep looking now! Just kidding, but seriously, it does look like a really good deal if it's in as good a shape as he says, don't you think? $250 for a working 3/8 rated machine from Hypertherm? Wow!

This is a strange time on that list because welders only come on occasionally, and now there are five or six, plus that really cool heavy duty bottle cart with the dryer on it....must be folks dumping inventory to pay taxes...or thieves fencing...or????

Pay taxes or thieves fencing....good thinking, you're prolly right. It's either thieves selling stolen stuff, or the original owners trying to sell stuff to pay thieves (the IRS). Either way, looks like a good bargain to me, just so long as I get a reciept signed. I always supply a reciept when buying from individuals and when I'm working for someone. Just a CYA thing I learned from the mistakes of others.

...and if you are feeling too 'sqiggy' about the deal, ask to see their driver's license, then scan it for your records...if they start crab-walking when you ask...you probably have some thieves. Get their license#, and have a camera ready (in advance) to snap a pic if possible...good time for a friend or spouse to appear and snap a picture while the deal is going down....""Oh I want to get a picture of how you are spending your birthday money to send to Mom!"...needless to say...if the serial number has been destroyed, get their license plate and call the police as soon as they leave.
I noticed a number of great deals on Craigslist lately that will not let you come to their home, but want to meet you somewhere to drop off the goods. Might be legitimate, might not. Make it someplace very public, or you could be set up for a hold-up...they know you'll have money on you!:) I believe the "I'm leaving town" is another part of these..."...so don't expect to be able to contact me again"...

Good idea but... I wouldn't let somebody copy my drivers license these days!
Thats how identity theft starts!

Moving to the opposite end of the spectrum (so to speak) there's a guy on the San Antonio CL today that's got a used Miller Spectrum 375 for only $2000...
Full bore MSRP from Miller's only $1395...

txfireguy2003, This is not mean to single you out, but it's information anybody might need to know. Getting a receipt is good insurance against you getting filed on for possession of stolen property. However, if the property you have in your possession is found to be stolen, YOU are the one that looses. The police will more than likely seize it and it's up to you to recover your money from the person you got it from. Good luck getting that done. In other words, if you think something is stolen, don't buy it unless you want to run the risk of losing your money and the property. I've worked in a pawn shop part time for about 25 years and know what I'm talking about on this. If we even suspect something is stolen we won't touch it. 2 reasons for this. One is what I stated above. The other is that we are an honest shop and hate theives as much as the guy that got his stuff stolen. We have turned in some vehicle license numbers on people that came in trying to sell stolen stuff. That can help the police recover stolen property.

And that's why I never do a CL deal without "my little (ok, not so little ;)) friend"...

Oh I know all that. Besides being a firefighter, I'm also a certified police officer (have to be so I can be an arson investigator) so I know how all that works. For me, I'm not too worried about the cops finding me with stolen property and siezing it, but if they do, at least I won't be going to prison.
I also second what Texhand says about his "little friend". A .40 cal Glock in a quick draw holster goes a long way in the hold up department. So it's not a 1911 .45, but I have a few more shots so I think it all evens out in the long run. Glaser safety slugs for those of you who carry, goes a long way to prevent you from having a "shoot through" and wounding or killing the wrong person. Magsafe also make a good safety round I'm told, but have no experience with them.

A .40 cal Glock in a quick draw holster goes a long way in the hold up department. So it's not a 1911 .45No, it's lighter and more reliable :p
Seriously though I have both and like both, but I'm partial to my three Glocks.
