here is how the little guy turned out. He's three feet tall, and probably weights 100 pounds. Those are teeth from a bulldozer bucket and an old propane tank. I'll probably add a belt buckle (some interesting object d' art), and stripe his 'pants'.:)

Hotfoot,
I really admire your eye for design. It takes some real vision to be able to put things together and have the finished product look like one well thought out piece and not a bunch of pieces with weld beads in between.
Good work as always

Is he related to R2D2? :D
I like it. Where do the feet come from?
I think he needs a pet by his side. Have you made a cat yet? Something tells me if you made a cat, it could be interesting. You could use a small disposable propane tank for the body.

Well, I did use a small tank to make this Piggy...I guess that could be his companion/pet, eh?:p

"Where do the feet come from?"...Those are two of the "Teeth" from a Bulldozer Bucket...same as the head...they weigh 22 pounds each!
"not a bunch of pieces with weld beads in between"...Well this guy has his beads all exposed, but that's part of Sluggo's Rugged Presence ...same as the rust and worn paint...although I may antique the whole thing with some Walnut Stain.

Hotfoot,
I didn't mean to say that the weld beads don't work with the piece, quite the other way around. Your work is fantastic. When I look at Sluggo I don't see bulldozer teeth welded to a propane tank, I see Sluggo. If you hadn't brought the elements together so beautifully you would only have a propane tank with some stuff attached. But you did something different, some how you took those bits of steel and made them into something entirely new and that is great art.
I hope this clarifies things a bit.

Hey, Preacher, I wasn't in any way taking it wrong! I'm tickled that you guys like my stuff. I just have a lot of fun hauling "scrap in/art out". :p

His final attire now has Striped 'pants', and a snazzy Copenhagen Lid belt buckle. Quite the snappy dresser, eh?:p

Very cool HF! Just saw him on the local CL too.
I was thinking about you the other day, had the opportunity to pick up a couple of those teeth free, so I grabbed 'em. They're yours if you want.

That's funny about the Cope lid belt buckle... when I was in high school, we'd make a wire clip, set it in a Copenhagen lid and pour melted lead tire weights in it to make belt buckles. Made a pretty formidable weapon if you ever had cause to swing it, but it was hard to be a badazz while using one hand to hold your pants up!!! :p

Texhand: Thanks on the teeth, but I'll pass. I've been trying to figure out what to do with the seven I have for months. There is one more man coming. They fit "almost" on a 4 x 4" post, and could make very cool fence post toppers (Batman comes to mind), and those could be short to set in a garden.
Craigslist in Austin has been where I often put up art I don't place in the galleries, and stuff I drag home from auctions and yard sales...usually turn it pretty quick, but if not, its free!:)
I have very little time in this little guy, and all scrap materials, hence the low price. I already have a bounce back on it.
Zrex: We used to grind down the back edges of Garrison belt buckles in the 50's for much the same purpose.

Well, as has been my experience with Craigslist, Sluggo was adopted by the first responder on his first day the ad ran. He is now Doorman / Butt Can holder at the Counter Cafe (6th and Lamar) in Austin. I have begun "his brother" to use up the rest of the "teeth"...and may make him up as Batman, because that's what those ears remind me of. I have two versions to choose from, the classic blue/yellow outfit, or the contemporary black outfit. Austin has a huge bat colony downtown under the Commerce Street bridge, and droves of people assemble at sundown to watch them depart for their dinner!

Hang on to one of those teeth and use it for a bending/forming anvil, if the material is tough enough. Might come in handy.

Removed the valve, let the tank "breath" in the wind for a week or so...to where the smell subsides... placed upside down (propane is heavier than air). I also did his brother "Concertina Player" from an already cut old acetylene tank...full of that concrete stuff, so this guy weights over 250# (my guess). This one is placed outside the front door of my trailer....never did find a loving home to adopt him!:p
