Anyone know of any good lenses to buy that fit into the opening of a shadow helmet with a 4x5" standard lens? I weld at work and the instructor I get training from has an "I View" in his. I cannot seem to find one.

I have found a sellstrom, and a weldmark, but they have the small viewing areas. I bought a harbor freight helmet with the skull on the side, and the lense has all of the sensitivity adjustments and shade adjustments, but the lid is broke, so I am going to return it.

Any help is appreciated. Shawn

Hi Shawn, Welcome to the forum. There are some units out there that will adapt a fixed shade 4 1/2" x 5 1/4" lens helmet to an automatic darkening helmet. However by the time you allow for the electronics, sensors, etc., the viewing area is reduced to the 2 x 4 1/2" size.

I like the nexgen lens...it is expensive but its one of the best that I have ever used...It has 4 sensors that help you to weld around corners, it has 3 modes...weld, grind , and torch cutting. and is adjustable from 9-13 shade...The boss is another good one...expencive, only 2 sensors, but has a wider view then the nex gen...I have a harbor freight hood also...It was good buy for 50 bucks...it does its job...its sensitivity is no where as good as the nex gen...but for the money...it works! If you don't need the grind mode...huntsman and fiber metal make a quick change for $125 or so...arc one has a nice lens...check out the internet out...all of the welding supply houses...take the time to look and research what is the best for you!!! Do your homework...I did and I'm real happy with my lens.:D
