I have an AEAD-200le Miller generator welder that has been unused for about 20 years. Got the motor running fine but have no weld or 120 v ac power. It surely has lost its residual magnetism but I can't excite it through either the ac weld output or the ac power output. Any help?

Check the brushes and the armature maybe?

Ooops - I mean commutator...

Perhaps you have discovered why it was parked 20 years ago!

Probably the brushes and/or the commutator is corroded. Simple fixes. Start with the simple stuff first.

That is what warrenty service centers now do for those that have bought jennys awhile back and never ran them for their quarterly "Preventive Maintenance."

I have personally seen this work but - out of skeptism, have always worn a face sheld ;-)

Try this...
While the jenny is running, take a fully charged (std) 12v battery, plug in one-each + & - lead into the 120v outlet; the circuit breaker(s) will then pop. remove your battery leads & reset the breakers and you 'should' have the jenny part of the equation putting out ac voltage once agn.

My father in law bought a brand new jenny that did not work upon returning home (power-outage). This is what the warrently repair shop did to "fix it". Since then, I have done this to several other jennys with success. BTW, the generator service centers make serious money on their little fix secret.

be safe.

Check and clean the slip rings first. They probably have a dark builup on them. Remove the brushes and check them too. Your LWS will have the proper slip ring cleaner. After reassembly start up and apply voltage at the slip rings. Thats their purpose in life. Don't know if there is a polarity issue. I've used another method that I'm not going to mention...

LOL
Its and alternator in there , not a generator. :D
