Real cute...there's no limit to what you can do with horseshoe nails.;)

I like it, Tigster! Those would make neat Business gifts for suppliers, etc. that you deal with regularly. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of a few trinkets I've handed out to folks I get scrap from for my artsy stuff.:)

I think you have created an interesting piece. You should do another one. A pair would nice. You are off to a great start.
You must have received some positive influence from unselfish, talented individuals who are fearless in sharing their techniques, processes and work.

Nice Work Tigster

just an idea here....but put it on a base and make a way to hold business cards and you have a sellable item...in the business gift vein

yes! i was thinking of the idea of a base, too. i could suspend them above the surface of the base, at different angles, and so forth. i think i will wait till next spring, when i plan on getting a plasma cutter, so i can cut neat and interesting shape bases. thanks for all the input!

p.s.: i actually like to draw and also do oil paintings. so this is another outlet for me. it sure is fun.

Tigster - what size filler rod did you use for the legs? I shamelessly tried to copy yours (hey - I'm no artist - but I can do crafts) but I found it pretty hard to make legs from the 1/16" Tig rod I had. When I finally got a pair done to my satisfaction - they were not stiff enough to keep the little guy upright.
Now he's sitting legless :(

hey big eddy. first time someone's tried to copy me, i feel honored! the legs and toes are made from 1/8 tig filler rod. post a pic when it's completed...

He's lying on his side right now - the Gecko's got him. I'll finish him off and post him when I get a chance. These were done for the charity auction at work - will see what they go for tomorrow.

Looks like cut nails, for the most part. These folks make all kinds of weird cut nails: http://www.tremontnail.com/index.htm

It's kind of interesting that their main manufacturing building was finished in 1848. They had a couple of fires before that, one during the war of 1812.

Thanks, USMCPOP, Good stuff. They need a video showing some of the antique processes.

Big_Eddy -

Are those lizards made from rebar? They look great, and if they are I have never seen rebar that clean.

Everytime I look on here I feel pressured to post some pics of some of my stuff, but it just isn't up to the caliber of what I am seeing (yet)

TIA

MNT - All credit goes to Hotfoot for the geckos - if you haven't seen these before - take a look in the old projects threads. He provides an excellent treatise on how to make them.

Mine are rusty old rebar - I used a cup brush before and after to clean them up - then I sprayed them with a gloss clear-coat. Hence the shine.

Moseralph - For the geckos - I used my 110V Mig with fluxcore - for the sandpiper attached here - I used my Maxstar 150 in Tig mode.

Tigster - Finished him last night - ended up with a clotheshanger for legs. Not as pretty as yours - but he's going to charity with the geckos today.

great job big eddy. mine is obviously a different subspecies. maybe we could mate them and see what kind of combinations we get, a different kind of metal fusion!
