This morning I stopped in at a place that has an old hand operated 8 foot 18 gage metal brake for sale. This is a straight brake not a finger brake. I couldn't see a make on it but these were around in every sheet metal shop I've ever been in. It looks to be in good condition and the apron works smooth but a couple hours of quality time with a pressure washer would do wonders. The guy selling this has a reputation of thinking everything he owns is made of gold and worth 2x as much. He's wanting $1,800 for this. I'm thinking $800 tops. The guy's son showed it to me, but I'll need to talk to the old man. It's obvious it hasn't been used in quite some tiime and is sitting in the middle of the shop in the way. He's had it in the paper for over 6 months. I'm thinking maybe if I had a fair offer in cash in my hand maybe he would jump on it. What would be a fair price?

I don't think you are going to have any luck talking him down from his price. Big difference from what he wants and what you want to give him.

I'd have to wonder why they quit using it. It might have deeper problems than a Pressure washer could fix.

Make a low offer and leave your number. Unless you got to have it now.
