Man, it's all around me here in San Diego! I think I'm safe where I am at, but there's a lot of folks have lost their houses. If ya don't hear from me for awhile, ya know I'm toast!

Well lets hope not... but have the sense to get out early if it does get close.

I'm pretty safe, where I am, but that fire is the worst we have ever had...being blown by 60mph winds, and the dry conditions...it's going through areas of multi million dollar homes...heading west. 100's of thousands people and animals displaced...I'm just now hearing that many folks could not take their animals, horses, dogs and cats with them, and left them to the fire...horrible! Tomorrow there will be 3 c-130's to dump retardant...but that's tomorrow...the fire will not sleep tonight, so the devastation will continue. 250,000 people evac'd...pray for us here.

What a mess. I can understand why people might have to leave horses and cows, but dogs and cats? We have 5 dogs and you would have to kill my wife before she would leave them to a fire or hurricane. Are these people driving out? I know in a pinch mine all fit in the van. Didn't they just figure out that people that left their pets in the Katrina evacuation never quite got over the trama of it?

That's terrible to lose a pet that way. Doesn't make sense unless the fire was moving way too fast to put them in the car. I guess they must be evacuating them on buses?

There's no time for busses, every man for himself....this fire is moving fast....I should say that MOST folks are getting their animals, out, only a few don't have room for their horses, and larger animals. Folks are helping folks they have never met...firecrews have learned from the fire in '03 and we see some amazing courage among these folks. it is kinda a freaky that they have to unload one of the state prisons, here ...but I guess they have a plan.

I certainly hope they have that planned! If not, I say send them to fight the fire, chain gang style.

I wish you the best. I am glad I no longer have to deal with the fires and earthquakes.

Best of luck to you, D.

Rocky, hope you are able to stay safe, its hard to imagine what those poor people are going through that have lost their homes. Or the people that have had to leave their homes not knowing if they will ever have it there to return to.

My sister-in-law is staying with us, and her home is in Ramona, where the fire went through a day ago, no word...no one can go in, yet..the good news is the answering machine still works. Where I am, is about 5 miles from the fire, and we feel pretty safe. The sad thing is, that lots of these displaced folks have not fully recovered from the last fire, 4 years ago.

Rocky when you hear how Ramona came out please post here. I have relatives in Ramona. I hadn't heard from them in quite awhile, and didn't know that Ramona had been hit by the fires.

Thanks,

The fire started just east of Ramona . and they among the first to evac...yesterday the water pumps in Ramona croaked, and they were hoping to get them back online early this morning...no water pressure, anywhere in Ramona. I haven't heard anything about Ramona yet this morning. The winds changed direction overnight, which presents more problems. There were many folks that stayed in Ramona...it's just that there is so much going on elsewhere, is prolly why there is no news from Ramona...all roads are closed in and out...we hope that no news is good news. There are more people evac'd here than in all of Katrina!

I hope the best for everyone there. My Aunt and Uncle moved to Ramona from KS in the early 1950's. They have long since passed away, but they had three sons and their families that live there.

I just wrote a freind out in So. Cali.
but it applies to all who must live with this.

The news indicates deliberate arsonists.!!
are responsible for some of this.

I've been warning folks for some time , how much more evil , that the bad end of sociaty , is capable of.

I've been mocked for it too.

The good pull together / the bad destroy , wheather in the forests , the ghetos , the congress , or the stock-market.

God be with you.

Thanks, friend..."Dubya" and the Gubernator was here today. They have released federal funds for the folks here, as a matter of fact, Arnie had the ball rolling mere hours into the firestorm! He had the secretary of defense send our the c130's on a "training mission" so that by the time the paperwork came down, they were already here...the military bases here were on the job, too. The gov't handled this much better this time...I guess you could say they ARE learning by their mistakes. It was mentioned that instead of having independent people remove the debris, they were going to have one outfit, controlled by the gov't (I guess) to handle the debris removal...the last time there were so many scam artists, lots of folks were ripped off.

Halliburton just got the keys to So Cal now? That didn't take long.

Glad to hear things are better with this disaster than Katrina, but the 'race card' is already flying.......

ACK!

Rocky, I was able to make contact with my relatives that live in Ramona, they are all okay. One of my cousins is back in Ramona currently as he works for the water dept. there. Most of the rest of my relatives from there are currently staying with extended family in either San Marcos or Escondido.

They found out that there houses were not burned from the fire but several in the close area was. They are ready to get back home so they can get started on the clean up and get on with their lives.

Would they know anything about San Diego Country Estates? I know it's weird asking some one in Kansas about what's happening right in our own back yard...but we are not getteing any info here.

The relative I ended up talking to would probably not know, he actually lived in Poway and told me where his brothers had gone to that lived in Romona. The cousin in Poway said their house was okay but the fire had been in part of their back yard. Sorry I don't know more than that. I had gotten an e-mail from one of the cousins that live in Romona but I think she had used a computer from where ever she works at to let me know they were all okay.

We just got word tonight (10/25) that residents could go home as long as they did not use any water...the pumps were down, and they had no spare parts...some planning, huh? The people are really pi$$ed!

Glad to hear the residents got to go back into town. I know there water demands there has taken a very big jump in the last several years. Sounds like they didn't do much preventive planning not having any spare parts for the pumps. When I was there in the mid 1970's there wasn't much to the town. I know it boomed sometime later and the last I heard it was a pretty good size community.

Rocky Recieved your E-mail last evening on a wireless web site somewhere in NY but befor I could reply someone shut down the site needless to say I was out of touch with the internet. Today 11/13/07 I am at the library in Saranac Lake, NY and can repy. WE are all fine but like Most everyone else in Fallbrook (40,000 residents) we were evacuated for 5 days. Went home and found everything at the ranch and the Town home untouched. Very thankful as 400 homes in Fallbrook were lost. Drove to NY for the month of Nov and will return Dec 3. Trust all is OK on your end. Harold
Praying for all those that lost so much.
