Are replacement parts available? Are they in business? We have a floor jack that we want to repair. At 1 1/2 ton, probably better off buying new...

Post a pic?
I've rebuilt many of these, most of them older than me. Yes, you can buy kits to fix them and they are pretty cheap. If the cylinder and ram are in good shape and no bends / excessive rust, you can fix them up to brand new.

You simply WON'T find a decent floor jack for less than $100 (more like $200)for 1 1/2 tons or more. Those $30 HF and even Sears brands are junk. I can't tell you how many of those were brought in by people hoping to get them fixed only to find they just can't be saved. They AREN'T intended for longevity or industrial (heavy) automotive use. Cheap, yes. Safe, I suppose. Reliable, for awhile. Get a REAL one and you'll KNOW the difference. Walker, Lincoln, Duff, even (hard to say it) Norco are excellent manufacturers. Those Snap-on 2-1/2 ton jacks are really Lincolns, BTW.

I say fix it. If you don't like it later or really want a new one, you can sell the Walker repaired for the price you bought the new one for to someone in the know.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but have a Craftsman jack 3ton, made by MVP that was given to me. It works okay, but the quick-lift (or whatever it's called) feature only works part of the time. Any idea how to fix this? I can't find squat on the internet.

Quick lift feature? Lemme see if I can find a pic on-line or a description...

Most often they are low-pressure / fast flow system for getting the ram to the load fast before any real pressure starts, then the real piston does the heavy pumping. Gimme a sec and I'll see what I can find.....

No luck so far on finding this, or a meaningful picture. Floor jack or bottle jack?
How's the oil? Dirty or low? With the jack down, pop the plug. If it 'burps' when the plug comes out, it may have been air-bound. This is pretty common with sealed oil reservoirs! If it's low or dirty, that may be what's going on. To see if it's filled enough raise it completely. There shouldn't be very much remaining oil left in the reservoir. There should be some, just not alot. Conversely, too much oil leaves too little airspace and the tank will pressurize when it's lowered. It also shouldn't suck air (duh) meaning low. If the plug is actually a vent make sure it 'breathes' OK.

Somehow the flow of oil is being slowed down either from air not being able to replace the space the oil is leaving, or the oil can't get into the cylinder due to a blockage.

If it's still giving you problems, snap a pic of the pump piston area if you get a chance. If there's multiple-pistons I can walk you through how to troubleshoot it from there.

I believe Walker was bought by Lincoln. Lincoln also makes the 2 1/2ton jack that Snap on sells. I just had my 20 year old floor jack rebuilt by a local old timer for about 100 bucks. The parts for this US made jack are available. It is a quality jack and is well worth rebuilding. I heard Lincoln is building jacks in China now though, and making some crap units like everybody else.

From www.hyjacks.com

WALKER/LINCOLN - This one is REALLY CONFUSING, sit down and have a cup of herbal tea...
Walker was all American from the 40's through the 80's when it was bought by LINCOLN. LINCOLN kept it American up til the end of the 90's when they moved 99% of their production to China (one floor jack was still made in the USA). After a few years in China LINCOLN sold off their jack line to a company called CLORE who changed the name to MARQUETTE. They held the company for about a year and then in October of 2003 sold it to the big Chinese maker, SHINN FU. SHINN FU held it as it was for the better part of 2004 then surprised everybody by bringing back the old prestigious HEIN-WERNER name back (retired in the mid 90's) and began making the line in America again! The jacks are not at all the HEIN WERNER jacks of the 40's-through early 90's, they are purely the American made LINCOLN jacks from the 90's.
Meanwhile SHINN FU still markets the BLACKHAWK import BANNER jacks, made in China. And also the famous Blackhawk PORTO-POWER line of body shop jacking equipment, made in America. They also sell their own OMEGA Jacks made in China.

I inherited an older Ajax model 95731 20 ton air assisted floor jack from my Dad. It hasn't ever worked that I remember. It needs to be rebuilt but I cannot find anyone that sells a rebuild kit for it. If anyone knows of a supplier I would appreciate hearing from them.
Many thanks,
Les Lane

you may find rebuild kits in the following sites:

Blackhawkparts.com
Ohiohydraulic.com ( this company may have a parts breakdown for your jack, ask them)

these sell parts for many american made jacks and also some imports. Also check:

Hydjack.com
Vorishyd.com

you can also google:

"hydraulic jacks parts"

"hydraulic jack repair parts"

if you need seals, like "u-cups" , (the seal that does the lifting), check:

Mfpseals.com

you can also google : "hydraulic seals"

there you will find companies selling seals for hydraulic equipment. Many also have technical information about seals and the types available. Try to read as much tech info as you can from the different companies so you understand the different types of seals and how they work.
