my shop runs syncrowave machine for aluminum and magnesium welding.we did have a foot pedal on it (it died) they went cheap with thumb wheel now you have to use pulse to "coast" on aluminum (no whip motion) you set interval to lay a chain bead...[{(or at least this was how the old school guys ttold me to set it up)}]

mabe some one else can enlighten both of us

They went CHEAP? How do they expect you guys to do a good job without a PEDAL? Using PANEL SETTINGS might get you the heat you need to weld..
But controlling it with any ease will need a PEDAL...Could be wrong, but I don't think the THUMB controls are tough enough to handle high output A/C applications?

yes you can control it with a thumb control. it does take some getting use to though.

BC you might be thinking about the thumb gas switch. It just turns on and off the gas, and the tung is hot all the time. this is more for a hard rig. But they do make a thumb "pedal" to control the heat.

Yeah I was thinking of the thumb control...I just didn't think it could handle 300 amps on A/C....WOW

That was a joke right:eek:

The controller merely goes through a low voltage (10Vdc @ .2 amp) circuit board:)

ya the thumb control has it own wire. this is good for learning but I doubt the OP cares about this now. Look at the date. I bet he wont even check back.

Yeah I understand all that, I meant I didn't know the thumb amptrol was used
when the welding current was being run that high....The pedal has a lot of stuff inside it that the thumb control couldn't have room for.........I see what your talking about......
