That looks like fun!

Recheck that thread. The thing's done! He painted it, made a diamond plate bed, installed a turbo diesel....

Wow, truly wow. Buying a beat up used one today and fixing it would be faster and cheaper than when he started this project, but bragging rights wouldn't be nearly the same!

That dude is a stud!

Amazing talent, but you know when he's driving it down the street, no one is going to stop and go "Wow, look at that, he must have built it from scratch!" They're going going to say "Hmmph, another moron with more money than sense driving a big ol' gas hog!" :p

And all that done with just a 110v welder (Lincoln MIG Pack 135)...

And at the very beginning of the thread, he talks about how he had to "learn how to weld" when he started this thing . . .

Regardless, it looks impressive. I haven't been able to read the thread (link is blocked here at work), but does it mention how much the body weighs compared to a standard Hummer?

Are you serious about him only using a 110 welder? That brings some new credibility to the humble garage outlet.

Yes, absolutely; posting #115 in that thread has some links to a scanned article from Bronco Driver Magazine covering that Hummer. On the first page it's stated that he bought the beforementioned welder and started practicing.
So he seems to be a very fast learner ...

All you read is true.I personally visited his build and it is impressive what he have done, especially his doors. While original hummer H1 is made from aluminum his truck is made from steal. He build it from the scratch, from the plans.

I sort of liked this one I saw on the National Geographic Channel heading right into the middle of tornado. He says he had to learn to weld also to build it.

Anyone that didn't take a look at that amazing welding exercise from scratch and a first welding project with a 110v machine really missed out.

The guy learned how to weld in a very short period of time and has the pictures to prove it.

Man o man! that guy is a freakin genius! I just spent 2 hours looking through the thread about that F-150 Hummer. I skipped it when it first came round, but this time I read through all 44 pages of it! The picture of the finished truck is on page 42, in case anyone wants to skip through it....turns out the guy is a mechanical engineer designing papermill machines. His brake is even more simpler than Dan's brake. Chalk up another one for the Canadians! :D

We all need wives that tell us "if you want one, you have to build it!'. That's how I get my stuff-necessity is the mother of late nights in the shop. My stuff isn't on this level, though. Wow. Just wow.
