Any problem using stainless filler metal on various types of mild steel, galvanized, etc.? If I'm not doing hard-core structural stuff, would the use of stainless filler for TIG add to corrosion resistance around the weld area?

I very seldom use anything but stainless on mild steel. It is easier to fuse with stainless. Any 300 series or Hastelloy. I wouldn't use Inconel though, as it tends to crack.

This picture is 16 gauge mild steel welded with 347 stainless
