Rocky D, as you requested I am posting some more pictures of the project. Some of these pictures contain my son (Logan) because since I needed him to hold the machine he wanted to be in the picture.

One or two might be a simulation of the complete machine. Also, the bolts that you see in the pivot point are still just the ones that I used as clamps during the assembly. I won t be able to complete this until next weekend.

OK, heres the pictures.

Almost done, these last two show you the location of a couple my weld beads on the connection between the bed leaf and the pivot point bracket. Im hoping that these are clear enough so that the obvious oscillation that I did is somewhat clear.

And finally here is the last one. Rocky D did this help you? do you need any other views?

Ok, so I lied heres a close up that might be better.

Dan, those are great pictures, and yes, they help a good deal. Also a really good lookin' young'un, ya got there, Dan!

Ya know, Dan you are a great teacher. Not every one can present a subject with so much clarity as you do. It is truly great gift to be able to teach.....and I am enjoying your class, immensely!

I'm still at a loss as to the 2 x 2 x 1/4 angle, but I'm sure you will make it clear, soon. Thanks, Dan.

What kind of camera do you have, it takes some high quality pictures.

Cannon Power Shot A40. I guarantee you that the quality of the picture is 100% a by product of the camera.

Also, I haven t forgot about the flat bar demo that I promised you. My schedule has just resently become incredibly tight , so I m not having near the amount of time that I use to have for doing such thing. Please be patient with me and I will get to it ASAP.

Im confused, what peice of 2" X 2" X 1/4" angle are you referring to? There are only 2 peices of angle in the entire project. One is the 3" X 5" X 1/4" and the other is 1 1/2"X 1 1/2" X 3/16". I know if I would have given you the bill of materials like you asked for there wouldn t have been this confusion. Just what I ve done to this point consumes quite a bit of time. If I have a chance maybe I post one soon.

By the way, my next project that Im thinking about trying to attempt is a small set of rolls for flat bars and maybe round stocks. If I have success in coming up with a design that doesn t require a high amount of expensive tools, especially a milling machine. I might try another fun class project with it.

My mistake, Dan. I work alot with 2 x 2 x 1/4 angle. Thanks for the correction. Is the angle just a stiffener for the clamp plate, then?

Yes, Rocky D the 1 1/2"angle is just a stiffener for the clamp plate. Go back to pic 4 in the series of pictures on this thread, I gave you a close up look of were the 1 1/2" angle is located. Also, in a previous post I mentioned it and dimensions that I use to locate it on the clamp plate. To easily find all the info that I given on the brake just do a search on this forum for brake. If you don t have the 1 1/2" angle, your 2" will work too. By using the 2" you give a little bit up on how short of a peice you can bend over the top of this stiffener.

Not quite done yet. Almost though, one more hour at the most. I can only work on it during my weekend. Things are going a little slower nowdays, because Im teaching my son some of the skills involved in metal fabrication. A demo of how the machine works and example of what it can produce was already the planned grand finale for this project. So I would assume that probably sometime saturday or sunday of this week I will be posting these pictures. Then it is your guys turn to build one and then give us a picture of your final results. Of course, I will be available here to try and answer any question that might come up in the fabrication process.

Dan,

Thanks again for the detail you put into this project. Not sure when I will be able to build it, still very much a beginner, but have saved all the plans, and pic's for future project.

Thanks again for the great effort on this.

Well, Dan I printed most of the pictures and transferred all the dialog in these posts to a MSWord file.

I built the flat bar parts today, and I had to pull a scrapped old guard rail out of our Salvadge Yard that had some C5 on it, to make the bed parts. You'd think a plant this size would have a length of C5 somewhere, but noooo. I have to use garbage! :)

I think I have finally deciphered the principle of the tool, so now I can build it.

Well thank goodness I m not the only one that had to look through the junk pile to find a short peice of the 5" channel. I had at least a 10' length of new material for everthing except the 5" channel. I had 3" & 4" channel but no 5" channel. I ended up finding a peice on an old peice of farm machinery that my dad was scrapping out. It took me at least a half an hour to make it look like a shiny new peice of metal. After I got done I was thinking I should have just went to my local supplier and bought a length. That was way to much work for an 8 1/2" peice of metal.

If you ve got some parts made were are the pictures of them? This is going to be the real fun part for me to see how someone elses machine turns out. Hopefully, I will have mine completed on Saturday so that you can see the entire machine completed. There are still a couple of peices that you haven t seen yet. Don t worry, they are just some peices of flat bar that I weld to the parts that you have just completed. There purpose is to give you a surface for clamping the machine to your table. Well lets hope that I have given you guys enough help up to this point. I would have like to have went a lot more in depth, but I didn t want to take up a lot of space on this site. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.

I have most of the pieces and have welded the bed . I made a field decision to put the weld on the inside of the C5, rather than on the top as you did. It seemed to me to be easy to set up that way.

I haven't found material yet for the handles, tho.

I did figure out the flatbar to clamp to the table, as you mention. I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

Rocky D,
The yellow lines roughly indicate were I ran a weld bead to secure the channel and flat bar peices. Please don t think that I m telling you were you are suppose to place your welds . Im just having some more discussion with you on how I choose to do my project.

I understood that, Dan....no problem. I have found my handle material, and now I can finish it today, I think.
This is sure a fun project!

if it's ok with Dan. I took the liberty of combining all of Dan's posts and images into a web page on my site. If Dan's not ok with this I can delete it.

I was in a hurry so I just put it all in one file. So, with all the excellent, explanatory pics Dan has included the page takes a minute or two to load depending on your type of connection.

oh yeah, I did my best to keep all of the posts in order, let me know if I got any of the steps out of order

Not a problem. However you forgot the picture of the dimensional drawing for part # 1.

Nice job Morpheus,
Kind of you to go thru the trouble for us. ThankYou!

Dan,
Thanks for all your work, I'll post a picture of my completed brake after I get my materials together.

This is sure a fun project!

I know what you mean. This has turned out to be very entertaining. Now Im trying to come up with another project that we could start after I complete this one. Anyone have an idea. It cannot be to complex or contain to many parts. I d like it to be another project that the novice can tackle.
