I have a 1995, Chev C/K 2500, 4x4, 454 automatic.
It is stuck in 'Park". The gear shifter on the steering column wont budge.Yesterday, I could get the floor shift in neutral, and then the upper would shift into neutral...but today everything is locked up. Any ideas?
I am afraid I am going to have to pay someone to tow it to a machaninc shop. TW

With the vehicle shut off try turning the ignition switch between the off position and run position. Then see if the gearshift will come out of park. Sounds like it may be an interlock problem.

Did you try rocking it back and forward a litle while trying to shift? Maybe its just the pin that holds it in position.

I have seen it where the steering wheel stays locked up and you have this problem. Usually when you have the wheels turned to an extreme or on a steep hill.

If this is the case then take some tension off the lock mechanism by pulling on the wheel, turn the ignition key to free it up, start the engine, step hard on the brake and see if the shifter moves.

Just bring it here to downtown Stockton or Modesto -- there's guys here that are very talented -- in a matter of seconds they can get it to shift even without the key to unlock the shifter or steering wheel . . .

It is in the switch or brake sensor or somewhere like that because I turned it a little and it went into drive. Thanks for the suggestions. Gotta go...On my way to get it fixed!!!
